We know the Chiefs have been high on WR Kadarius Toney since the 2021 NFL Draft. While KC did not have a first round pick that year, the team was able to make a trade for Toney in late October. Toney had been relegated to the bench in NY after injury and the Chiefs believe he can be a valuable asset in their high-powered offense.

In his first game in KC, Toney caught two passes for 12 yards. In the latest episode of “The Franchise” (a documentary-style show on Youtube), Toney explained why he picked #19 in Kansas City as opposed to 89 which is tattooed on his back from his days in NY.

“I really feel ecstatic right now,” Toney said during the show. “I don’t know. There’s just too much behind it, right now. Like too much behind the number, too much behind the team. I’m just ready to take off and do what I’ve got to do right now.”

Toney also referenced his former high school teammate and friend Ja’Christopher McCants who lost his life in a tragic accident. McCants wore #19 in high school and was 19 years old when he passed. His jersey number in KC was chosen to “signify him” as well as the fresh career start he hopes to experience.
