The eyes of the college football universe turned to national signing day on Wednesday and Mizzou coach Eli Drinkwitz met with the media to discuss his tremendous class for 2022.

Missouri ended the day with the 17th ranked class in the country (according to Rivals.com). Coach Drinkwitz was able to sign seven four or five star prospects, the most in program history. Success on the recruiting front has created quite a buzz among Mizzou supporters everywhere as the Tigers hope to improve on last season’s 6-7 record.

“Very excited about the way we finished off our class. It’s a tribute to all of our director of player personnel and recruiting specialists.”

In most people’s eyes, the highlight of the 2022 class comes by way of WR Luther Burden from East St. Louis. Burden is Mizzou’s first five-star prospect since Dorial Green-Beckham committed to the Tigers back in 2012. The receiver class as a whole is a major strength as pairing Burden with high-quality athletes like Jamarion Wayne and Mekhi Miller should help create an explosive offense on the field sooner than later.

It’s time for recruiting to yield on-field results

While Missouri was able to win three out of its final five games to finish bowl eligible in 2021, you certainly hope to see more progress this season. Currently, Eli Drinkwitz’s record at Mizzou sits at 11-12 and with a fresh batch of transfers and back-to-back top 25 recruiting classes you hope to see progress on the field.

Missouri’s schedule does it no favors in 2022 but there should be hope of young talent meshing with the transfers listed above. For real progress to be shown, you would like to see Mizzou finish 7-5 at minimum. That would ensure the fanbase keeps its faith in the current regime and that things are headed in a positive direction. 2023 may provide the real litmus test as to whether or not this program can compete with the top of the division.
