The worst three-year period in Missouri basketball history will conclude this week in Nashville, TN at the SEC Tournament and the Tigers already know that a new coach will be at the helm next season.
News broke Sunday afternoon that Kim Anderson has been asked by Mizzou Athletic Director Jim Sterk to resign following a disastrous three-year tenure.
“This decision has been very difficult for me personally because of the tremendous respect I have for Kim,” Sterk said in a release from the University of Missouri. “I know how hard he and his staff have worked to turn the program around over the last three years, however, the lack of on-court success has resulted in a significant drop in interest surrounding our program, and we could not afford for that to continue another year.”
Coaching Short Board
Tom Crean. Could be a perfect storm considering it appears he is on his way out at Indiana. He’s a proven commodity that’s been to a Final Four and proven he can recruit. This would be a very good hire for Mizzou.
Frank Martin. Martin has always spoken very highly of Mizzou from back in his days at Kansas State. He has turned around a fledgling South Carolina program and could very well be content to remain there.
Will Wade. He’s done a great job taking over at VCU since Shaka Smart left for Texas. He, Chris Holtmann, Kevin Keatts and Steve Wojciechowski will be mid-major names that you will hear a lot pop up in the near future.
Kelvin Sampson. A proven winner but may not be the right age for a rebuild job as significant as the one might be.
Cuonzo Martin. He has taken both Tennessee and Cal to NCAA Tournament appearances and could be looking to get back to the midwest.
Jeff Capel. His name will be popping up for Division 1 jobs until it finally works out for him. Capel had success at VCU and Oklahoma before returning to Duke as an assistant, where he’s been for the past 6 years.
