Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes and offensive coordinator Eric Bieniemy have been attached at the hip since Mahomes came into the league in 2018. Together they’ve been involved in three straight AFC championship games and a Super Bowl victory in 2020.

As with any coach/player relationship, things often get chaotic in the heat of battle. On Sunday, while the Chiefs offense continued to struggle in a 22-9 win over the Denver Broncos, a bit of a dust-up occurred on the Arrowhead Stadium sidelines following a failed third down conversion in the third quarter.

Yeah, it was kind of a little mix up up of the play that we wanted to call in that situation,” Mahomes said during an interview with Sports Radio 610. “And then I like you said, both of us love it. I think that’s the biggest thing: both of us love being out there playing this sport, being part of the Kansas City Chiefs, and we both were just frustrated more with the game than we were with each other.”

And so obviously, we got a little frustration there. But we talked it out right after and I mean, I love that dude. He loves me and we’ll keep rolling.”

Mahomes went on to say that things were fine between he and Bieniemy just moments after the exchange.

It’s kind of like when family members or brothers or whatever like that fight.” Mahomes said. You both care about each other, you both care about trying to be the best and get the best out of each other and that stuff dissolves really fast.”
