We know the Chiefs have been high on WR Kadarius Toney since the 2021 NFL Draft. While KC did not have a first round pick that year, the team was able to make a trade for Toney in late October. Toney had been relegated to the bench in NY after injury and the Chiefs believe he can be a valuable asset in their high-powered offense.

In his first game in KC, Toney caught two passes for 12 yards. In the latest episode of โ€œThe Franchiseโ€ (a documentary-style show on Youtube), Toney explained why he picked #19 in Kansas City as opposed to 89 which is tattooed on his back from his days in NY.

โ€œI really feel ecstatic right now,โ€ Toney said during the show. โ€œI donโ€™t know. Thereโ€™s just too much behind it, right now. Like too much behind the number, too much behind the team. Iโ€™m just ready to take off and do what Iโ€™ve got to do right now.โ€

Toney also referenced his former high school teammate and friend Jaโ€™Christopher McCants who lost his life in a tragic accident. McCants wore #19 in high school and was 19 years old when he passed. His jersey number in KC was chosen to โ€œsignify himโ€ as well as the fresh career start he hopes to experience.
