5 thoughts on Mizzou’s last-second win over Florida
- Some days, you just have to find a way. That’s what Mizzou did on Saturday night. After taking a 30-21 lead late in the third quarter, it seemed as if the Tigers had finally found a way to run away from the Gators. That proved to be false as backup QB Max Brown helped lead Florida to two key scoring drives which looked like it might seal the deal on an upset special. The Mizzou offense, however, would not be denied as quarterback Brady Cook kept hopes of a 10-2in season alive with a clutch 4th-and-17 completion to WR Luther Burden. Winning in the SEC is hard and the Tigers showed an unbelievable amount of resiliency to pull this one out.
- This meant a lot to the seniors. We talked with Harrison Mevis, Cody Schrader and Darius Robinson after the game. This was special for them. This group has been through and seen it all during their time in Columbia. Sports are crazy that way. When you see a group that is able to overcome obstacles and achieve at the highest level, there are not many feelings that can match that. Mevis’ kicks have helped change the season for this team. Starting with the 61-yarder in September against K-State and culminating with a senior night dagger, Mevis is sure to go down in Missouri history. Then you have Cody Schrader, 148 yards, touchdown, and now 333 yards shy of Tyler Badie’s single-season rushing record. As these players keep saying, they’re “not done yet.”
Eli Drinkwiz discusses Mizzou’s come-from-behind win
- The defense struggled, to put it mildly. Was this a wild one-off or an obvious effect of missing two of your best players in Ty’Ron Hopper and Chad Bailey? Perhaps a little of both? The Gators confused the Tiger defense all night long and had success both on the ground and through the air. Darius Robison talked about how the performance was “unacceptable” and that he personally has to be better to not allow this to happen again. This defense has played lights out since the third drive of the Kentucky game so we’ll have to see how things finish out both next week and in the bowl game.
- A 10-win season in the SEC is SPECIAL. That’s what’s on the line next Friday in Fayetteville, Arkansas. A 10-win season and a NY6 bowl game. Anyone have that on their bingo card back in July? Mizzou only has 6 10-win seasons in its history and this team is on the precipice of Mizzou football immortality. To achieve this, they merely have to get by a disappointing Arkansas team that will simply be attempting to play the role of spoiler on Black Friday.
- Welcome back Luther Burden. After having just four catches for 26 yards a week ago, we got the full Burden effect on Saturday. nine catches, 149 yards and an (almost) sensational TD points to the fact that Luther is getting healthy again following the ankle injury he suffered against Georgia. Burden also eclipsed the 1,000 yard mark for the season and has established himself as one of the top offensive playmakers in America.
