The Chiefs will look to improve to 3-0 for the fourth time in five seasons when they travel to Indianapolis to take on the 0-1-1 and wildly disappointing Colts. The teams last met back in 2019 when the Colts pulled off a stunning upset in Kansas City on Thursday Night Football.

The Chiefs will be without starting linebacker Willie Gay, who was suspended earlier this week by the NFL for four games. The Colts, however, could regain the services of WR Michael Pittman which would be a shot in the arm to a mediocre receiving corps.

5 reasons the Chiefs will beat the Colts

  • Follow the history. Patrick Mahomes is a spectacular 7-0 in domes in his career. The Chiefs have suffered a total of two losses in the month of September since Mahomes took over as starter in 2018.
  • The Colts are…a mess. A team that many picked to win the AFC South began the season with a tie against lowly Houston and a 24-0 blowout loss to the Jaguars. This is about as disastrous as the beginning of a season could be. Running back Jonathan Taylor is terrific but has struggled out of the gate. Thus far, the Colts offense has been one dimensional and basically putrid.
  • They can’t get this QB thing right. Five years, five different starters for the Colts and nothing is working. After Andrew Luck’s retirement, we’ve seen Jacoby Brissett, Phillip Rivers, Carson Wentz and now Matt Ryan at the helm. Ryan has thrown just one TD so far and four interceptions and the early returns are that this is the same ol’ situation we’ve seen in Indy now for half a decade.
  • The Colts don’t have the weapons. Aside from Taylor (and injured WR Michael Pittman), this team just doesn’t have the personnel to keep the Chiefs defense on its heels. This team will be relying on such cavalier receiving weapons as Ashton Dulin, Mike Strachan and Kylen Granson to try to stay in this game.
  • Coaching: the x factor. Frank Reich has not exactly been a disastrous hire there in Indy as the organization has done a decent job building a solid roster top to bottom. Reich could very well be on his way to the hot seat, however, after this abysmal start. When it comes to matchups like this, most of the time you can look at the coach/QB combo and often pick the winner. Andy Reid played his starters throughout the preseason and it’s clearly paid dividends.

Prediction: Chiefs 37 Colts 22
