While lots has been made about two black quarterbacks facing off in a Super Bowl for the first time (and rightfully so), it’s also the first time two former Big 12 QBs will meet in the Big Game. Patrick Mahomes starred at Texas Tech from 2014-2017 while Jalen Hurts played his final collegiate season at Oklahoma in 2019. Mahomes was (surprisingly) the first Big 12 QB to ever win a playoff game back in 2019 and now Big 12 are having unprecedented success.
In actuality, three of the four teams in the championship games were from the Big 12, including Brock Purdy who played at Iowa State.
