When you think of Willie Gault, it’s impossible not to think of blazing speed and the ’85 Bears. Gault did, in fact, play for the Chicago Bears from 1983-1987 before finishing his career with the L.A. Raiders but it was his days spent in Knoxville, TN that he recalls most fondly.
Last weekend, we had the opportunity to interview Willie in Las Vegas during the Greens Celebrity Golf Tournament. It was not the ’85 Bears Super Bowl team or qualifying for the Olympics that was the main topic of conversation. Instead, Gault spoke of his time at Tennessee playing for legendary head coach Johnny Majors where he earned All-American honors in 1982.
“Tennessee was amazing,” Gault said during the interview. “Going to Tennessee and seeing the 96,000 fans at the time. It was an amazing experience for me and I wouldn’t give it up for the world.”
