The path to becoming a professional athlete is typically met with many peaks and valleys. The Chiefs drafted former Mizzou All-American Nick Bolton with the 58th pick in the second round of this year’s draft. Bolton, a Frisco, TX native, had to overcome numerous family health issues to get to this point.

As a player, the Chiefs are getting a highly-instinctive, hard-hitting linebacker with a high football IQ. As a person, Bolton is exemplary. As a kid, it was discovered that his older sister, Jazmin, had a 3-inch tumor in her brain. The tumor required an 11-hour surgery.

And just when Jazmin was getting better and the Bolton family was turning the corner, Nick’s mother was diagnosed with breast cancer. Thankfully, both survived and Bolton used the adversity he went through as a young man to fuel his fire on the football field.
