The Chiefs will enter the 2023 season without one of its mainstays on the coaching staff as former offensive coordinator Eric Bieniemy left to take the same job with Washington. The team elevated QB coach Matt Nagy to offensive coordinator, a job he had from 2016-2017. Bieniemy had been the offensive coordinator in KC for Patrick Mahomes entire career but has told NFL Insider Adam Schefter that he knew 2022 would be his final year in KC.

Bieniemy was very respectful to his former employer during his appearance on The Adam Schefter Podcast

“I’ve known for awhile,” Bieniemy said. “But that’s something between me and coach (Reid). It was nothing that was discussed with any of our other coaches. I just wanted to make sure it wasn’t a distraction.

Bieniemy will now take over as offensive coordinator for the Washington Commanders, a team that just released quarterback Carson Wentz. As Bieniemy put it during the interview, he enjoys a “challenge.”
