SEC Media Days officially kicked off Monday at Birmingham’s Hyatt-Regency hotel. The event helps mark the unofficial beginning to the upcoming football season and the Missouri Tigers were first on the docket.
Head coach Barry Odom, defensive back DeMarkus Acy, quarterback Kelly Bryant and linebacker Cale Garrett were on hand to address the media and to speak about the upcoming season. Coach Odom remained steadfast when addressing the NCAA sanctions that have been heaped upon his team.
“I also look at it as, it’s a very aggressive approach and also with respect.” Odom stated. “And the way the course goes, we’ll find out and come to closure with it one way or another in the near future.”
Senior transfer quarterback Kelly Bryant was lauded with attention by the media upon his arrival. He was all smiles as he sat in front of media and talked about why he chose to come to Missouri in the first place.
“I just pretty much fell in love with everything they had to offer.” Bryant explained. “I have one year to get it right.“
2019 Season Prospects
As of this moment, Mizzou is ineligible to play in a bowl game or the SEC championship game. Should that be overturned during the appeal process, there are many members of the SEC media that believe the Tigers have the necessary talent to compete for the SEC east crown. SEC Network’s Chris Doering told GASN Sports that Mizzou was his “dark horse” to win the SEC east outright.
SEC commissioner Greg Sankey spoke on behalf of Mizzou when asked about the sanctions.
“The goal for us is very clearly stated to our institutions.” Sankey stated. “It’s never to pull down a championship banner and to never have a team banned from postseason because we can’t follow NCAA rules.”
