The Royals optioned there proclaimed “ace” of the starting rotation today. Yordano Ventura has had a rough sophomore season that has seen him deal with injuries, emotional outburst in games, and uninspired pitching performances.
The youngster has an era of 5.19. The demotion to Omaha comes off a start where Ventura went 4.0 innings allowing 6 Earned runs in a 10-7 loss to the Pittsburg Pirates. The Royals have been rumored to be in the trade market for a starting pitcher. Some of those rumors shifted the Royals looking for another outfield bat to fill the void left by Alex Gordon’s injury that will have him out till September. In a perfect world the Royals would be able to pick up a bat for the offense and a big time starting pitcher, however, it is likely they will only get one of those options.
The front office has to make a move or multiple moves to help this team down the stretch. Luckily, despite all the issues, injuries, and lack luster starting pitching, the Royals still hold the best record in the American League.
