Undoubtedly, Bengals LB Joseph Ossai’s late hit out of bounds on Patrick Mahomes with eight seconds to go in the game was a major deciding factor in KC’s victory over Cincinnati. The late hit was clearly the right call as Mahomes was at least a yard-and-a-half out of bounds when Ossai extended his arms, knocking Mahomes to the ground and injuring himself in the process.
One NFC defensive coach, who has chosen to remain anonymous, has made claims to The Athletic that Mahomes flopped on the play to get the flag.
“That is what the owners want, $40 million skill players flopping on the ground, drawing fouls from [part-time officials who double as] chemistry teachers, medical device salesmen and the like,” an NFC defensive coach told Mike Sando of The Athletic.
It is understandable that the coach wanted to remain nameless with claims like that which play into the whole “NFL is rigged” conspiracy which is propitiated by thousands of fans online after each and every game.
Regardless of the sour grapes, the Chiefs advance to its third Super Bowl in four years and will take on the Philadelphia Eagles on February 12th at State Farm Stadium in Glendale, AZ.
