Just like you, we were shocked and devastated to hear the news, not long after we saw him at Arrowhead Stadium welcoming Tony Richardson into the ring of honor, that former Kansas City Chiefs Head Coach Marty Schottenheimer has Alzheimer’s. We grew up in the 1990’s during the rebirth of Kansas City Chiefs football, thanks to Marty Schottenheimer, and that era will always hold a special place in our hearts, as I’m sure it does for every Chiefs fan, player, and coach who was a part of that.

We wanted to make this film for a number of reasons with those being: wanting to share with Marty a collection of different memories from different perspectives, thanking him for what he did for us, and reaching out to tell him that we are all thinking of him and sending him and his family our best wishes. Marty brought football back to Kansas City and meant so much to his players. Now, seventeen of Marty’s former players share their memories and well wishes with their coach, mentor, father figure, and friend.

Meeting Marty and His Reaction to the Film

In August of 2018, we were able to meet Marty Schottenheimer and present our film to him in person at his home in North Carolina. Meeting the man who helped make us the sports fans we are today and helped send us on this path of sports media and filmmaking, was one of, if not the best moments of our lives. Marty getting choked up watching his former players one by one come on screen and tell him what he did for them not only as a player, but as a man, made this film and trip more than worth it. Marty leaning over to us and whispering, “thank you” during the film meant more to us than he may ever know. We hope each and every one of you get a chance to see this film and that it touches you like it does us and the Schottenheimer’s. Proceeds also go to aid in Alzheimer’s research as Marty continues his fight and as we all continue to hope and pray for this great coach, father, mentor, and man!

  1. Coach is a great inspiration and a perfect example of what it feels to desire to be the best one can be. He was the happiest after a win and the most uplifting and encouraging after each loss.
