The colts running back went down halfway through the second quarter in the 20-27 loss to the Jaguars yesterday. Even though the loss was tough, and even tougher loss is Marlon Mack with a season-ending Achilles injury.

Last season, Mack led the team in rushing and proved to be the bell cow the Colts always thought he could be. However, this season will be different. Mack will be watching from the sidelines as the crowed backfield will take turns on the field.

The Colts have three speedy receivers on their roster still. Rookie Jonathon Taylor out of Wisconsin, Nyheim Hines, and Jordan Wilkins. Hines scored twice in the season opener, once on the ground, and once in the passing game. Presumably, the Colts backfield will be Hines as the starter and Taylor as the back up with Wilkins on third down and the spell.

Losing Mack is a big blow to a team that has Super Bowl aspirations with the signing of Philip Rivers and the additions of Taylor and Pittman through the draft and then DeForest Buckner through trade with the 49ers.

Last season, Mack carried the ball 247 times for 1,091 yards and scored 8 times. He also had almost 70 first down runs with 28 going for 10+. The most impressive stat is his almost 650 yards after first contact with an average of 2.8.

2020 is a contact for Mack as he was looking to feed off of last season’s success. The Colts will look to move on for the season without him.
