Gary Pinkel, the all-time winningest head coach at both Toledo and Mizzou has released his new biography “The 100 Yard Journey: A Life in Coaching and Battling for the Win” with author Dave Matter.
The book chronicles Pinkel’s 25-year head coaching career and the journey that brought him into the profession, as well as his giant leap-of-faith of taking the job at Missouri in the first place.
“People told me you couldn’t win there.” Pinkel said in a recent interview with GASN Sports. “I would question myself in anger, like what the heck did I do this for?”
118 wins, 10 bowl games and four conference championship game appearances later, coach Pinkel cemented himself as a legend at Mizzou and helped raise the status of the program from perennial cellar dweller to a team routinely in the national spotlight.
“We all had to learn (to win).” Pinkel explained. “Don’t ever tell me you can’t win championships here and that you can’t compete on a national stage at Missouri because we did it.”
