The news broke this morning from Adam Schefter that Dwayne Haskins had passed away after being struck by a dump truck. He was down in Florida working out with Steelers teammates at the time. Adam’s tweet that you’ll see below was insensitive and he later took it down. Chiefs players also started flooding Twitter with their prayers and condolences.
Dwayne Haskins Instagram Post from his High School Senior Night

Adam Schefter’s insensitive tweet

Later, he would delete that tweet and post this one instead…
Dwayne Haskins, a standout at Ohio State before becoming Washington’s first-round pick and playing in Pittsburgh, died this morning when he got hit by a car in South Florida, per his agent Cedric Saunders. Haskins would have turned 25 years old on May 3.

How about “ Dwayne Haskins, son, husband, buckeye brother, friend, beloved teammate has passed away” TF his career ups and downs have to do with him unfortunately losing his life🤦🏾♂️ STFU! Let his family & friends grieve instead of throwing shade. Praying for the Haskins family!! pic.twitter.com/gb1D9KcgCQ

Dwayne Haskins' family deserves an apology. They don't need to hear about his professional "struggles" on the same morning of his untimely death.
— JosinaAnderson (@JosinaAnderson) April 9, 2022
Absolutely devastating news. Thinking of Dwayne Haskins’ family and all those close to him. Sadly, I wish we would have all been informed of the news with a little more sensitivity and compassion. 🙏🏻

Dwayne Haskins’ death is another reminder that we should pay attention to how we talk about athletes even when they fall short of expectations. We should always remember to treat them with humanity. It’s just a game. I try to follow this advice but admittedly fall short sometimes

What happened with Dwayne Haskins is a legit tragedy. Just 24 years old and gone way too soon.
— Chris Rosvoglou (@RosvoglouReport) April 9, 2022
How someone thinks it's okay to add "struggled to catch on in Washington and Pittsburgh" in their report is beyond me.
Wasn’t a time to put he was struggling in the same message..RIP Dwayne Haskins, prayers to his family… https://t.co/ql5bqPgSUu
— 🏁 Jamal Crawford (@JCrossover) April 9, 2022
Idunno if Adam meant harm. But, the big problem is that he’s clearly a person that’s a robot, with no sense of humanity. No feeling. You can have couth as a reporter. He’s been at this long enough to know that.

Dwayne Haskins’ first major moment at Ohio State was as a freshman, taking over for an injured J.T. Barrett while trailing rival Michigan on the road in the 3rd quarter. Haskins would lead the Buckeyes to 3 scoring drives and a come from behind win. RIP 🙏 pic.twitter.com/HOi63mFArj
