Baylor University has decided to fire successful head football coach Art Briles following reports of sexual misconduct by members of the Baylor football team and subsequent neglect by high ranking officials at the university.
“We were horrified by the extent of these acts of sexual violence on our campus. This investigation revealed the University’s mishandling of reports in what should have been a supportive, responsive and caring environment for students,” said Richard Willis, a chairman of the Baylor board of regents.
Briles, 60, was in the middle of a 10-year contract extension that he received two years ago and will leave Baylor with a record of 65-37, a record that includes four 10-plus win seasons and two Big XII Championships.
