Never one to back away from an interview, former Florida Gators head coach Steve Spurrier came to chat with us about a myriad of topics.
The”old ball coach” was on hand to talk about the upcoming SEC Network 12-part documentary “Saturdays in the South.” Spurrier was part of a roundtable discussion featuring Hershel Walker and Archie Manning, however, as we found out, no topic is taboo.
When he learned that our media outlet, GASN Sports, was based out of Missouri, coach Spurrier indulged us with a story about his 1966 Gator team that lost to the Tigers in the Sugar Bowl.
“We were way behind and we tried to catch up.” Spurrier explained with a grin. “We need to beat Missouri this year if we can, you all clobbered us last year.”

Now an ambassador at the University of Florida, the old ball coach doesn’t foresee himself roaming the sidelines again any time soon in the SEC. He briefly coached the Orlando Apollos of the now defunct AAF but appears satisfied in his current role at UF.
