While this weekend proved that anything can happen in college football, there were some upsets, and some teams that continued to steamroll forward. There wasn’t a shift in the top two teams in the country, but after those, there was a bit of a shakeup.
(1) Clemson had no change, but it is notable to mention that their RB D. Bowman entered the transfer portal. T. Lawrence threw for 329 yards and 2 TDs beating Virginia 41-23.
(2) Alabama stayed put as well. While M. Jones threw for 435 yards and 4 TDs beating Texas A&M 52-24. M. Jones connected for three long TD passes to Metchie for 78 yards and 63 yards, and Waddle for 87 yards.
(3) Georgia knocked of Auburn 27-6. Auburn couldn’t keep Bo Nix safe behind the line, their O-Line struggled while Georgia seems to be settling into place.
(4) Florida beat South Carolina 38-24. K. Trask threw for 684 yards through two games now. Florida will matchup against Texas A&M next Saturday.
(5) Notre Dame was idle this week but comes back next week against Florida State.
(6) Ohio State has yet to see the field but will make their debut on 24 October against Nebraska.
(7) Miami was also idle this week but has a big task next weekend taking on the #1 Clemson Tigers.
(8) UNC barely squeezed by Boston College, beating them 26-22. They take on anther top 25 team next week with Virginia Tech.
(9) Penn State has yet to play as well. They return to the field 24 October taking on Indiana.
(10) Oklahoma State finishes out the top 10. They ravaged through Kansas yesterday beating them 47-7. They have a bye week next weekend.
There is some early Heisman talk going on with a few weeks into the season. The favorite right now seems to be Trevor Lawerence from Clemson. However, there are a couple of players from Alabama knocking on the door–Mac Jones and Najee Harris. Also, Kyle Trask of Florida and D’Eriq King of Miami round out the top players for now. Lets not dwell too much on this since we have a lot of football left to play and top teams still have to get through their respective conferences.
To end on a fun note, well not so fun for UCF or Oklahoma, but fun for everyone else! Oklahoma will go unranked for the first time in 64 straight poll appearances. And finally (well hopefully) UCF can lower their tone a bit, were upset by unranked Tulsa 34-26! They went from being ranked #11 to out of the top 25. And the final note–a round of applause for Arkansas! They got their first conference win in two years!
Signing off, thanks for tuning into “Tailgate Talk” with me, and as always ROLL TIDE ROLL!
