Kansas City Chiefs center Rodney Hudson will sign with Oakland for five years and $44.5 million after the NFL’s free-agency period begins 3 p.m. Tuesday.
The Chiefs were in talks with Rodney Hudson and hopeful to re-sign their best offensive lineman, but they learned today that he is moving on to their most hated rival. The Chiefs, who struggled mightily on the offensive line last season, now get even worse as their best lineman parts for greener pa$ture$. The Chiefs will have to look in free agency, the draft, or backup Eric Kush (6th round pick in 2013) to replace the all-pro and one of the best centers in the game today. Chiefs General Manager John Dorsey thinks Eric Kush is up to the task when he said this at the NFL Scouting Combine, “I think Kush is ready to play. He’s chomping at the bit.”
After signing Justin Houston to the non-exclusive franchise tag, restructuring Tamba Hali so he will remain a Chief, and signing star free agent WR Jeremy Maclin away from Philadelphia; things were looking up for Kansas City, but today they were dealt a massive blow. The Chiefs must find an adequate replacement as well as bolster other spots along the offensive line if they have hopes of making the playoffs in 2015. The Chiefs have to clear more salary cap room which they can do by parting ways with Dwayne Bowe, Chase Daniel, and placing Eric Berry on the NFI (non football injury) list. Then the Chiefs must identify the right players and be able to close the deal to improve on their 9-7 2014 campaign.
