Chris Jones is back after sitting out the Chiefs’ week one loss to the Detroit Lions. Given a new incentive-laden contract for 2023, Jones is available to report immediately. Does this mean all is well between Jones and the Chiefs? Not so fast. Jones is now under contract through 2023 but next year could walk into free agency. So what else is possible?
The Chiefs could franchise tag Jones after 2023 as a no-franchise tag clause does not exist in the new deal. That doesn’t mean the Chiefs will exercise that right, however but it is now more possible that Jones is a Chief in 2024.
