The Kansas City Chiefs have signed CB Morris Claiborne to a 1 year deal worth up to $1.5 million, via Terez Paylor of Yahoo Sports. Morris spent the first 5 years of his career with the Dallas Cowboys after being drafted out of LSU. He joins another former LSU Tiger in the secondary in Tyrann Mathieu a.k.a. “Honey Badger”. However, Morris is suspended the first four games of the season for violating the league’s substance abuse policy although he is appealing and it could be reduced.

The Chiefs had to make this move as they are desperate for help in their secondary, specifically at corner. Bashaud Breeland is coming off a season in Green Bay where he only started 5 games while Charvarius Ward only started 2 games in Kansas City last season. Kendall Fuller started 15 games, but had a so-so year with only 2 interceptions and 12 passes defensed. Also, Kendall is being asked to be a full-time slot corner this season by Steve Spagnuolo and that means he won’t be on the field in two wide receiver sets. Behind those three are a cast of complete unknown quantities such as 6th round pick Rashad Fenton, undrafted rookie Mark Fields, and D’Montre Wade who spent all of 2018 on the Chiefs practice squad. Morris Claiborne has the talent, length, and pedigree to be the Chiefs best corner this season.
