Multiple sources have confirmed that the Red Sox have made multiple trades today. Red Sox General Manager Ben Cherington must have a lunch date or an afternoon tee-time to make, because he dealt early and often

this morning. The first of two blockbuster trades sent the Sox ace pitcher Jon Lester to the Oakland Athletics along with a fan favorite, Jonny Gomes. In return, the Red Sox get something powerful; literally. Cuban outfielder, back-to-back Home Run Derby champion Yoenis Cespedes will join the Red Sox.

Immediately after the Lester trade was announced, another deal was made by the defending champs. The St. Louis Cardinals made a deal this morning with the very team they lost to last October. Right Fielder Allen Craig will be on a plane to Boston along with right handed pitcher Joe Kelly. In exchange, the Cardinals receive a proven veteran pitcher, John Lackey. The Cardinals must have big trust in the 35 year old when it comes to post-season experience. Lackey was the winning pitcher in the series clinching, game six win for the Red Sox over the Cardinals. An injury stricken Red Birds pitching staff receives a boost in this trade, but will the brief rental of Lackey be worth it in the long-run? How about the A’s renting of Lester before his coming free agency this off-season? Give your opinion on who won the trades here.

2:16 P.M. Update: Latest reports say that the Red Sox have dealt reliever Andrew Miller to the Orioles. In return, the Red Sox will get an excellent pitching prospect, Eduardo Rodriguez. It looks like the Red Sox know what they are doing.
