Coach Eli Drinkwitz and three Mizzou football players were front-and-center today in Nashville as SEC Media Days kicked off at the Grand Hyatt. Missouri joined LSU and Texas A&M as the three programs were thrust into the limelight for media members to poke and prod throughout the day.
Coach Drinkwitz was focused (if not a bit guarded) during Monday’s sessions as the focus is on getting his football team to attaining a new level of success. The Tigers have been a .500 program since 2019, a record Drinkwitz and each of the players showcased Monday hope to distance themselves from.
Joining Drinkwitz were DB Kris Abrams-Draine, OL Javon Foster and Darius Robinson. Even Foster agreed that Mizzou’s strength lies on the defensive side of the ball but that the offensive execution must improve.
But what about quarterback? Drinkwitz told us during a media session that someone will have to beat out incumbent Brady Cook during camp but that the starter could “reveal himself quickly.”

With 18 starters returning, Mizzou could figure to be a bit of a dark horse in 2023 and the secondary is as good as any in the SEC. Corner Kris Abrams-Draine talked about the camaraderie he has with his teammates and the urgency to take the program to the next level.

With Media Days now in the rearview, Mizzou will look to the start of Fall camp in two weeks. For the Tigers, establishing momentum early could play a major factor in to how this season goes. A September 10th game at home against defending Big 12 Champion Kansas State will provide a stiff and necessary test for Mizzou.
