Clearly it’s the dream of every American football fan to wake up at 8:30 AM on a crisp fall morning and watch a British choir sing “God Save the Queen” before watching their favorite team take the field at Wembly Stadium in front of 80,000 people, most of which unsure as to what a first down is.
Kansas City showcased a balanced offense and battered Lions QB Matt Stafford relentlessly as the Chiefs defense notched six sacks on the day. Quarterback Alex Smith threw for two touchdowns on the day and was also the games’ second-leading rusher with 78 yards.
After two straight wins and shockingly only one game back from an AFC Wild Card spot, is it safe to say the Chiefs are in the process of saving their season? Realistically, given the complete ineptitude shown by the team through the first six weeks, it is going to take a win in two weeks at Denver to put the team in a position to challenge for a playoff spot.
This appears to have the makings of a Chiefs team that will finish around 8-8 and miss the post-season for the second consecutive year, although owner Clark Hunt has already stated that he’s sticking with head coach Andy Reid and GM John Dorsey through 2016, a regime that appears to be attached at the hip with polarizing and highly paid quarterback Alex Smith. For pessimistic Chiefs fans, this looks like another dog and pony show that will be able to point to a few positives to carry them into the future and promises of a “better line” with “more offensive weapons” will follow.
