Top Gun: Maverick” has become a global box office phenomenon raking in over $1 billion dollars domestically. Who would have ever thought there was a Kansas City Chiefs tie in with this epic film? Apparently, former Chiefs QB Matt Moore acted as a production coordinator for the all-important beach football scene.

The scene has widely become known as one of the movie’s seminole scenes with tremendous action and breathtaking lighting. The actual game played in the movie was referred to as “dog fight football” in which both teams were on offseason simultaneously while the action never stops. Director Joseph Kosinski recently made a great point when addressing the football scene.

“Our screenwriting team figured out a smart way to integrate that scene into Maverick’s training. There is a reason — this notion of dog fight football offense and defense at the same time is a nice foreshadowing of what we’re going [to] see in the third act.”

Moore played for the Chiefs in ’19 and ’20 and even started two games during the team’s Super Bowl season in 2019. He helped lead the team to an upset over the Minnesota Vikings in week 9 which helped the Chiefs stay in the race for a top-2 seed in the AFC.
