As injuries continue to mount in the Chiefs backfield, the team could be looking to bring back a former player to add much needed depth.

Darwin Thompson, a running back out of Utah State was drafted by the Chiefs in the 6th round in 2019. He was signed to the Buccaneers practice squad during the Summer of 2021. Thompson was released earlier this week by the Bucs and a source close to the situation believes Thompson is heading back to Kansas City.

The move would make sense given the uncertainty surrounding the availability of Clyde Edwards-Helaire (shoulder) and Darrel Williams, who (toe) were both limited practice participants on Wednesday.

It is said that Thompson has already arrived in Kansas City although it remains unclear as to whether he woudl be promoted to the active roster in short order. Thompson amassed 225 career rushing yards and two touchdowns during his time in Kansas City.
