Usually everyone who has a stable job always looks forward to Fridays and why not, its last day of the work week and relax on Saturday. On Sunday, get your mind right for the next work week that is coming up. However, for now, free agent Earl Thomas, I am positive that he envisioned his weekend going differently. On Friday, he got sent home after he got into a fight with former teammate safety Chuck Clark. The same day he released the video of the incident trying to explain his side of the story. To no surprise, the Baltimore Ravens were so displeased with his actions that they told Thomas to stay home. This made for an interesting Sunday after a meeting with the leadership council of players within the organization. There was also much discussion with General Manager Eric DeCosta and head coach John Harbaugh and they ultimately decided it was best to release All-Pro safety Earl Thomas. Unfortunately, this was not be the first time conflict had entered Earl Thomas’ world.

Seahawks dynasty that never was

Seattle drafted Earl Thomas in the first round of the 2010 NFL draft out of the University of Texas. He was a core member of that legendary “LEGION OF BOOM” Secondary with starters Richard Sherman, Brandon Browner, and Kam Chancellor. During his time with Seattle, they appeared in two Super Bowls winning one and his accomplishments made him a legend in Seattle. He was also a pro bowler for Seattle from (2011-2015) and again in 2017. He made First Team All-Pro for them from (2012-2014) and Second Team All-Pro (2011 & 2017). He’s also a proud member of the NFL 2010’s all-decade team. Even with all his accomplishments, Thomas and the organization could never get that same magic back from those Super Bowl appearances. That eventually led to a fallout with Pete Carroll. In the 2018 season, during a week four matchup, Thomas was carted off the field with a lower leg injury which ended his season. It also led to the famous flipping the bird shot to Pete Carroll which ultimately ended his tenure as a Seahawk and made him a free agent.

Joining the Ravens

On March 13 2019 Earl Thomas signed a four year $55 million contract with the Baltimore Ravens with $32 million Guaranteed and you can tell from the get go he looked like and played like a Raven he finished the year with 49 tackles, 2 sacks, 1 forced fumble, 1 fumble recovery, 2 interceptions, and 4 pass deflections, and the Ravens were the number one seed in the AFC and looked like the team that was on its way to the Superbowl but it was not to be as they would lose to the Tennessee Titans and again Earl Thomas would be on the wrong side of famous NFL moments as in one point of the game he looked like a leading blocker for Derrick Henry the NFL leading rusher and from there it just got worse from getting caught at a party with another woman in the same room with his brother and just as we all now know twenty four hours ago being released from the Ravens.

What’s next for the great safety

It always seems that players with great talent like his come with a bit of an attitude:

  • Andre Rison
  • Terrell Owens
  • Ndamukong Suh
  • Odell Beckham Jr.
  • Richard Sherman
  • Antonio Brown

That list above was just to name a few, but with players like these they can afford the attitude because their play speaks for itself. However, for Thomas it’s a wait and see approach. As far as an idea as to where he will land next, these would be my best guesses:

  • Dallas Cowboys
  • Philadelphia Eagles
  • Pittsburgh Steelers
  • Miami Dolphins
  • Tampa Bay Buccaneers

It’s anybody’s guess where he might end up, but whoever that team is hopefully they are prepared to sign Earl Thomas the All-Pro Safety and Earl Thomas the man.
