The highly anticipated 2016-17 College Football Playoff is set to take place this weekend with two games on New Year’s Eve. While it would be nice to see the tournament extended to eight teams in the future, it’s safe to say that the four best teams in college football are getting their chance to compete for the national title. Alabama, Clemson, Ohio State and Washington are the only four teams from the Power 5 conferences with less than two losses this season, so we should get to see three exciting football games during the College Football Playoff.

The College Football Playoff will start on Saturday afternoon at the Chick-Fil-A Peach Bowl when the Washington Huskies take on the undefeated Alabama Crimson Tide in Atlanta. While the Huskies have had a great season against very tough competition in the Pac-12, they are still going to be huge underdogs against the defending national champions. While anything less than a title is a disappointment for the Crimson Tide, Washington is grateful to make it this far after entering the season as the 14th ranked team in the country.

The immense pressure on Alabama could have been a huge advantage for the Huskies, but Nick Saban always gets his team prepared for a big game. The game will be a battle of contrasting styles when the uptempo passing offense of the Huskies faces the stout defense of the Alabama Crimson Tide. Washington quarterback Jake Browning has had a great season, but he will have a hard time adding to his 42 touchdowns on an Alabama defense that gave up less than 12 points a game. Nick Saban has made a career by shutting down great offenses, and he will most likely do it again on Saturday.

Sports fans will get to see the second game of the College Football Playoff shortly after the Peach Bowl concludes. The Ohio State Buckeyes will face off against the Clemson Tigers on Saturday night at the PlayStation Fiesta Bowl in Glendale, Arizona. Unlike the the Peach Bowl, you can make an argument for either team winning the Fiesta Bowl. Both teams averaged more than 40 points a game this season, so it should be a highly entertaining game no matter who comes out on top.
