Opposing teams have had a tough time stopping Rico Gathers this season. Will he win SOTN?

Well, well, well. You would think with it being a slow type of night across college basketball, that there would not be this many Stallion-esque performances to choose from. I was going to just go ahead and put the 5 names that I was looking between on the list, but we will just stick with the three choices like we have done all week. Take a look at the numbers these guys put up:

Good Luck block Rico Gathers out.
Good luck blocking Rico Gathers out.
  • Rico Gathers (Baylor) – 25 points and 28 rebounds (Also an assist and a block)!! Yes, you read that right, 25 and 28! Unbelievable! Sure, go ahead and say that he did this against an NAIA team and how it is not as impressive as it would be against a division 1 team. Well, lots of other D1 teams played D2 and NAIA teams this year, and no one, NO ONE, did that. Gathers is a rebounding machine this season as he averages over 12 a game and has had over 10 rebounds in all but 3 games. Congrats to this young man for a record setting performance for rebounds in a game, at his school.

DeAndre Bembry and his awesome hair had a great game last night.

  • DeAndre Bembry (St. Joseph’s) – The sophomore forward was a stat sheet stuffer last night. He had 25 pts, 8 rebs, 7 assts, 3 blks, and 5 stls in his teams 62-56 over UMASS. Bembry was obviously an offensive force, but his defense really stood out. Yes, you can look at the 5 steals and 3 blocks and tell me that is obvious, but it is what he did against that you do not see in the box score. The guys he was guarding barley scored all night. He had the true definition of an all-around performance in his game. Oh, he also has outstanding hair.

Just another 3 pointer from Javarez Willis. This guy can shoot the rock.

  • Javarez Willis (Ohio) – Willis was HOT last night in his teams 82-73 win on the road over Ball State. Willis was 7-9 from the 3 point line and finished with 27 pts, 4 rebs, 6 asst, and 1 steal. Willis has been a little up and down lately as far as his scoring goes, but he shoots almost 40% from the 3 point line and it will be no surprise if this senior guard makes the list again.
