Coach K is the obvious SOTN of the weekend, but what players are up for the award?

Lots of games were played over the weekend (Friday-Sunday), 169 to be exact, and there were big time performances in a lot of games. Narrowing it down to 3 was obviously very difficult. Read close to a couple of these names, though, as you have seen them before.

Coach Mike Krzyzewski earned his 1000th win on Sunday. That is quite an impressive feat as he and Pat Summitt are the only two coaches to do that in Division I. He is the obvious SOTN of the weekend, but we will give you options anyway.

  • J.J. Frazier (Georgia) – The 13-5 Bulldogs are tied for 2nd place in the SEC standings and are in the hunt for an NCAA Tournament bid. Frazier helped them earn their 13th win with his HUGE game on Saturday. Frazier, who only averages 10 points and 4 rebounds a game, exploded for 37 points, 7 rebs, 3 assts, and 2 stls in the 72-66 road win at Mississippi State. If the Bulldogs get more performances like this from Frazier, they might be one of the few teams who can beat Kentucky. They play next week.

  • Saah Nimley  (Charleston Southern) – Have you seen this name before? You should say yes, because this is Nimley’s second time as a SOTN candidate. This time around, Saah had 37 pts, 5 rebs, 4 assts, and 1 stl. Nimley was once again hot from three as he was 7-12 from behind the arc.For those of you keeping track, that is 4 straight 30 point games in a row! Not many college players can say that they have accomplished four 30 point games their entire career, let alone in 4 straight games. CSU has now won 5 straight games, thanks in large part to Nimley, and looks to challenge for the Big South conference crown. What do you think the chances might be for him making SOTN for a third time this season? My guess is, pretty high.

  • D’Angelo Russell  (Ohio State) – The freshman phenom did it again, and made his way onto the SOTN. This time he did not score as many points, though. He contributed bigger in other categories this time as he has 22 pts, 6 rebs, 10 assts, 2 stls in his teams big upset win against Indiana. Russell is probably going to the NBA after this season, so make sure you sit down one evening and watch him play. He is the real deal and is fun to watch.
