Kansas City Chiefs head Coach Andy Reid talks to ESPN about the improvements needed from 2013 to 2014, feeding Jamaal vs. making sure he stays healthy, and the young offensive line and secondary needing to gel together. They then shift over to talking about the contracts of QB Alex Smith and LB Justin Houston and how Alex will need an even stronger year to earn the money he’s looking for ($18 million/year).

The Kansas City Chiefs will have a much tougher road to make it back to the playoffs this season with the losses of LT Branden Albert, RG Jon Asamoah, WR Dexter McCluster (Pro Bowl punt returner), and CB Brandon Flowers. They also lost DE Tyson Jackson and FS Kendrick Lewis, but those will likely turn out to be positives. The Kansas City Chiefs, along with the rest of the AFC West, take on the NFC West division this season which is widely considered the toughest division in football. It’s hard to see the Chiefs winning more than 8 games, but as they say, that’s why they play the games. Alex Smith is wanting a new lucrative contract, but he’ll have to show that he can start the season off the way he finished it as well as come up big in the clutch moments. Alex and the offense were carried to a 9-0 start by a swarming and suffocating defense, but when the roles started to reverse we stumbled to a 2-6 finish. This season will be a crucial one for the Reid and Dorsey era as they watch Alex intently and make a decision about his future with this franchise. Will they continue down the same road of mediocre quarterbacks or will this regime take a lesson from the past and look for a franchise quarterback to lead us to bigger and brighter things in the future?
