The Kansas City Chiefs 2014 season had it’s ups and downs, but they found themselves at 7-3 only to lose 4 of their last 6 games and lose out on the final playoff spot. Alex Smith had another mediocre season behind a porous offensive line and no real threat at wide receiver. The defense stepped up and was the glue that held this team together despite the losses of Joe Mays, Derrick Johnson, Mike DeVito, and Eric Berry.  Speaking of Eric Berry, he found out that he has Hodgkin’s Lymphoma which is a type of cancer, but with a very good survival rate and we wish him the best in a full and speedy recovery. Andy Reid led this team full of injuries and lackluster play on the offensive side of the ball to another winning record which is a feat that should not be ignored. We are still weary of his decision at quarterback, but time will tell if it was the right decision or another horrible blunder by the Chiefs at the most important position in the game. Now, time for the Kansas City Chiefs Honors Awards for the 2014 season!

The Award for the single most devastating loss to a team’s season goes to the Kansas City Chiefs Week 1 loss at home to the T.C. Williams High Titans, 26-10. Oh wait, that was the Tennessee Titans, but I’m guessing they’d love to have Julius Campbell and Gerry Bertier on their roster, “Left side! Strong Side!” 

The Award for Defensive Player of the Year if J.J. Watt were to have an “accident” goes to Justin Houston who had 22 sacks on the season. He was 1 sack away from breaking the all-time record which is held by Michael Strahan at 22.5 sacks. 

The Award for best Chiefs Touchdown by a Wide Receiver goes to ……… hmm, the envelope is empty.

The Award for “I can’t believe they did this to me again and I don’t know what I’m still doing here” goes to Dwayne Bowe. Dwayne has never played with a good quarterback and here’s a look at the ragtag group from 2007-Present, yikes! 

The Award for worst 4th quarter comeback attempt goes to Alex Smith, Andy Reid, and the Kansas City Chiefs offense against the Arizona Cardinals.

The Award for the most mind-boggling #2 pass defense goes to the Kansas City Chiefs’ Sean Smith, Husain Abdullah, Ron Parker, Phillip Gaines, Chris Owens, Kurt Coleman, and Jamell Fleming. Seattle was #1 allowing 185.6 yards per game through the air while the Chiefs allowed 203.2 yards.

The Award for the most immature as well as the most careless player with the football after the catch goes to Travis Kelce. Travis has a ton of potential and talent, but he needs to harness his energy level to maintain his mental focus. 

The Award for biggest overreaction after a single game goes to the Kansas City Chiefs 41-14 drubbing of the New England Patriots on Monday Night Football. People were saying their dynasty was dead, the Patriots wouldn’t win the AFC East, and rumors swirled about possibly trading Tom Brady. When all was said and done, Tom and the Patriots won home field advantage and are getting ready for the Divisional Round of the playoffs against the Baltimore Ravens. The Chiefs will be watching the action from the comfort of their living room couches.

The Award for worst contract extensions, 1st round picks, and voice goes to General Manager John Dorsey. He really does have a weird voice, but we’d all be willing to overlook that if he’d find us a franchise quarterback. However, he has chosen the mascot for the mediocre, Alex Smith. The extensions he gave to Dwayne Bowe and Alex Smith are unforgivable as we are now hamstrung with the salary cap for two average football players. Eric Fisher is not panning out especially with being the number 1 overall pick from the 2013 draft. Dee Ford, the 23rd pick in the 2014 draft, was barely on the field in 2014, but the jury is still out as it is way too early to make a clear determination on what kind of player he will be.  

The Award for worst use of a franchise player goes to Andy Reid and his misuse of the Chiefs star running back Jamaal Charles. Jamaal had 206 carries which is the 3rd lowest of his career, not counting 2011 when he missed 14 games due to his ACL injury. The two years he had fewer carries than 2014 were his first and second year in the league in 2008 and 2009.
