All of a sudden the Chiefs 11-5 season of a year ago seems like it occurred decades ago. With a roster that got much worse over the off-season, coupled with a disastrous performance in week one against the Tennessee Titans, it is clear that the Chiefs are staring down the barrel of an inauspicious season to say the least.

The Chiefs are out-manned at almost every position on the field in this game, and will have to rely on head coach Andy Reid’s coaching abilities to make any kind of competitive contest out of it. With an 0-2 start, the Chiefs could already find themselves completely out of contention for even a .500 season, especially with the schedule they have looming ahead (at Miami, New England and at San Francisco). It appears many people that follow the Chiefs saw this disaster coming, people questioned the lack of activity in free-agency and questioned the direction that GM John Dorsey was taking this roster. Dorsey let Pro Bowler’s Brandon Albert, Dexter McCluster and Brandon Flowers walk away into the night without replacing them in any capacity. Other former starters like Tyson Jackson, John Asamoah, and Geoff Schwartz were also kicked to the curb without suitable replacements acquired. You can also call into question the first two draft’s of Dorsey’s tenure, as his two first-round selections were made to replace a solid starter the following year.

With a tall hill to climb, the Chiefs will travel to Denver later today a 13-point underdog to the Broncos, and it is clear that this is the biggest mismatch in the NFL in week two. 0-2 teams have only a 12% chance of making the playoffs, so a loss today would put the Chiefs heads squarely on the post-season chopping block.
