According to the Austin-Statesman’s Brian Davis, The University of Texas has decided to fire head coach Charlie Strong effective after the conclusion of the season as he is expected to coach the team against TCU in the season finale.

The news comes after an inexplicable loss to Kansas, who had not won a Big 12 game in two years and had previously only beaten Rhode Island on the season. Strong amassed a 16-20 record in three years as the coach of the Longhorns and had been on the hot seat for quite some time. The loss to Kansas could certainly be construed as the straw that broke the camels back for the embattled head coach.

Many believe that Houston coach Tom Herman will be Texas’ obvious #1 target and if he does land in Austin, it would immediately rejuvenate the passionate fan base and large-money donors.
