The 2017 college football season is off and running and has already provided many memorable moments. Let’s take a look at my biggest winners and losers from week 2:
Winners
- Oklahoma. The Sooners went into Columbus and boat-raced the defending Big 10 champs a year after the Buckeyes did the same to OU in Norman. Quarterback Baker Mayfield inserted himself into early Heisman conversations after throwing for 386 yards and 3 touchdowns. Mayfield made a lasting impact on Ohio State fans as he spiked the OU flag on the 50-yard line following the impressive victory.
- Anyone that saw this play. When it was all said and done…Louisiana Tech would be faced with a 3rd down and…93.

- Georgia kicker Rodrigo Blankenship. He kicked the go-ahead field goal that allowed Georgia to knock off Notre Dame in South Bend, then announced to the team afterwards that he was given a scholarship. Seriously, college football always bringing it with all the feels!

- Clemson. The defending champions but on a defensive clinic in a massive home victory over Auburn. The Tigers may not be as explosive without DeSean Watson at the helm but the ACC had better be on notice that no one is unseating them just yet. Speaking of the ACC, Lamar Jackson is still the best player in America.
Losers
- Sexual assault university. Sometimes things just have a way of taking care of themselves. The Baylor Bears are currently 0-2 following losses to start the season against Liberty University and UTSA. It’s good to know that sometimes, just sometimes, the world finds a way to right itself.
- Arkansas. Bret Bielema’s Razorbacks got thumped at home 28-7 by TCU; a team they defeated in overtime in Fort Worth last September. That wouldn’t be so bad really, but factoring in the teams’ disastrous finish to the 2016 season and things could be getting uncomfortable really quick down in Fayetteville.
- Missouri. The stage was set. “SEC Nation” in town, solid home crowd and a night game. The Tigers even opened with a 10-0 lead before things completely fell apart, leading to a 31-13 South Carolina win. If you are a Missouri fan right now you are wondering how things got so bad so quickly and it’s obvious coach Barry Odom has a massive hill to climb from here.
- Kansas. The Jayhawks went from 0 wins in 2015 to 2 in 2016 which led to the school excitedly giving coach David Beaty an extension. With a bit of recruiting momentum occurring this past summer, the Jayhawks are likely in the process of seeing those players run for the hills following a 45-27 thumping at home to Central Michigan. The good news is Kanas will get to play both Baylor and Texas this year again.
- People that fell asleep before Boise State/Washington State was over. These two teams provided viewers with a 3 overtime thriller that saw Wazzu come roaring back from a 21-point deficit in the fourth quarter to force the overtime. Good win for Mike Leach who continues to have success in Pullman.
