According to Adam Teicher, Chiefs trainer Rick Burkholder says that Alex Smith has suffered a lacerated spleen and will not play Sunday against San Diego.
The Chiefs will look to backup Chase Daniel to help keep its slim playoff hopes alive. Daniel started in week 17 last year as well after KC had already wrapped up a playoff birth. Sunday will be Smith’s first missed start as a member of the Kansas City Chiefs due to injury.
