Emmanuel Acho, former sixth round draft pick of the Cleveland Browns and host of “Speak for Yourself” on Fox believes Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes has more to prove. On the June 23rd edition of the show, Acho began taking shots at the former Super Bowl and NFL MVP.
” Patrick Mahomes has to prove he can win without Andy Ried,” Acho said. “Mahomes is a figurative NFL trust fund baby. He was born into a Hall of Fame coach, Hall of Fame tight end and a Hall of Fame wide receiver.”
Acho would go on to compare Mahomes’ situation to that of players like Josh Allen, Baker Mayfield etc implying much of his success has been situational.
This is an argument we heard with Tom Brady for years. The consensus was that Brady lucked in to having Bill Belechick as his coach which set him up for instant success. Not surprisingly to many, Brady went on to win another Super Bowl with the Bucs after leaving Belechick and the Patriots.
The national media clearly have an obsession with finding the next big thing and poking holes in players that have had success. We see endless quarterback rankings which now have players like Josh Allen or Joe Burrow ahead of Mahomes despite the fact that either have achieved at Mahomes’ level as of yet.
