Tyrann Mathieu says he would have accepted lesser deal to stay with Chiefs

In a candid interview with KC Star’s Sam McDowell, former Chiefs safety Tyrann Mathieu revealed that he would have accepted the same three-year deal that the Chiefs gave to Justin Reid. According to Mathieu, the Chiefs never offered.

Many have assumed that Mathieu’s demands were simply too high for the Chiefs to meet, a claim that Mathieu says is untrue.

“To be honest, if they wouldn’t offered me Justin Reid’s deal, obvoiusly I would’ve tried to negotiate, but if that’s where they drew there line in the sand, I probably would have took it. I probably would’ve took it.”

Mathieu made it clear that he was done with the Chiefs when the season ended as the team failed to communicate their plans for him going forward.
